This past week resulted in great strides forward both on and off the water for the novice and varsity rowers. With practices at the boathouse held even earlier on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as rigorous weightlifting and erg workouts at Drake Stadium, the entire team was challenged physically and mentally, with excellent results. Wednesday morning practice in the rain proved to be especially challenging but reflected the determination and dedication required from everyone on the team. On Thursday, the entire team participated in another 6000m erg test at a rate of 24 strokes/min, slightly more difficult than the previous week?s test. For both teams, this week?s focus was working on both technique and power in the boats. By Saturday, there was a dramatic improvement in coordination and teamwork that culminated with the novices being able to take out their own boats, resulting in a few novice-varsity races out in the marina. The weeks ahead appear to be very promising as the team shows great improvement with every passing day.
