Bruins Open Season Against Loyola Marymount
March 7, 2009- In fast conditions this morning the UCLA Varsity 8 overcame a slow start to beat the Lions by one length in a time of 5:42.3 with UCLA’s 2nd Varsity finishing third. “I was expecting our crews to perform better today but am glad to get through the first race with a win,” said Head Coach Paul Mokha.
The Bruin varsity crew was able to take control of the race in the 3rd 500 meters to solidify their victory.
The Bruin’s novice crews did not fair as well. The first 1000 meters saw some tight racing but Loyola Marymount was able to pull away in the in the second half of the race to win by open water over the two UCLA entries. “We gained some good race experience and will continue to build on a solid foundation as we look forward to our upcoming races,” said Coach Rob Hermann.
The Bruin’s next test will be at home on Ballona Creek versus UC- Irvine and the University of San Diego. Sunday, March 15 starting at 8:30am.
