HEAD OF THE MARINA
Nov. 3- Saturday morning was the first chance for this year's crop of novices to experience racing. After spending the last four weeks learning to row on the ergs and water the novices got to put on the uniform and do a 5k lap around the marina. Five UCLA entries were met with one entry from LMU as all crews raced by sixes. LMU was the winner followed by the five UCLA crews. "Our power and form need work but it was fun. I was concentrating so much on my form that I didn't get to give everything I had physically," said Austin Henderson. "We did alright, said Joel Aftreth, I really like the challenge of rowing and the teamwork needed to do it right. It's great!" The varsity squad raced in singles, doubles, pairs and a four. "It was a chance for the guys to go out and have some fun, said coach Mokha, we have been teaching everyone to scull and putting them in small boats a couple days a week." Up nest for the novices is a scrimmage with UC-Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount on Ballona Creek Nov. 18.
